Claire Young to fight General Election battle for Lib Dems in Thornbury and Yate

by Claire Young on 21 April, 2017

I am delighted to announce that I am the Liberal Democrat candidate in the election that is taking place on 8th June. Local Liberal Democrats have been preparing for this for a long time as we work to win back the Thornbury and Yate seat that Steve Webb held until two years ago.

As the South Glos councillor for Westerleigh ward and deputy leader of the Liberal Democrats on South Gloucestershire Council, I have many years of experience of helping local people and campaigning with them to get things done. Recent campaigns have included working with bus users to press for improvements to the 82 Southmead bus service, speaking up on behalf of parents and pupils about the difficulties at The Ridings Federation schools and challenging the Conservatives’ poorly thought through development plans for our towns and villages.

Theresa May announced the snap election, despite repeatedly saying she would not hold one. Your Liberal Democrat Focus Team is ready for the challenge ahead and we are looking forward to standing up for the people of the Thornbury and Yate constituency.

Go for it Claire. You’ve done us proud for 10 years.I am proud to be working for you during the campaign. Lets win the seat back from someone who has done very little in almost two years. Already, Mrs Maybe is backtracking on the triple lock for pensioners that was not brought in by the Tories but by Steve Webb.

Good luck Claire try to keep the Tories from their worst tendencies.
