Go ahead given for new Watermore School

by Claire Young on 10 August, 2018

We are delighted to report that at the planning committee meeting yesterday there was unanimous support for the officer recommendation to grant planning permission for our Ofsted-rated “outstanding” Watermore Primary School to have a new building on what is currently the Meadow site in Lower Stone Close.

This means that, subject to the Secretary of State not intervening because of the loss of playing field space, there will be 420 school places available for local children in a permanent building.

It is sad that the current Government funding arrangement has meant that South Gloucestershire Council has had to put aside its own policies and, to quote the Planning Officer, make an “on balance” decision in order to be confident that the funds will be available to actually build the school. As local councillor Pat Hockey said, “This will be the first time I have found myself voting for flats that have no amenity space”.
