After a summer of bad odours, it’s good to see work starting on the new sewer for the Westerleigh abattoir waste.
Westerleigh Parish Council and ward councillor Claire Young have been working with the Environment Agency, Tulip (owners of the abattoir), Wessex Water, South Glos Council and others for many years to address the odour problems in and around Westerleigh village.
Last year we reported that Wessex Water had written to Claire with the good news that they were planning a new sewer for the abattoir waste, which would bypass the village. They agreed to our request to attend a drop-in meeting so residents could find out more.
The work is expected to finish in the spring – let’s hope this brings a better summer for the people of Westerleigh.
