Back in November, Claire raised the problem of vandalism in the lane between Wayleaze and Alexandra Road with the council’s anti-social behaviour team. They are now looking at ways of making the lane less attractive for people to lurk in, such as cutting back the trees.

I live in a house which is adjacent to the lane from Wayleaze to Alexandra Rd. I therefore read with interest the item about Anti Social Behaviour.
I certainly don’t condone any such behaviour and personally have seen no evidence of it in the lane, just on the grass patch at the end of the lane on Alexandra Road. The trees/hedges along the lane are not the issue and they belong to the property owners surely as they grow within the boundaries of gardens. I would object strongly to the Council cutting down my trees or hedge. At what point is there to be consultation about this?
Thanks for your comments.
Unfortunately there has been a recurring problem with people hanging around under the light at one of the bends in the lane, drinking, taking drugs and committing acts of vandalism. Some of the properties have had to replace their fence many times and in November the street light itself was left in an unstable state after they smashed up its concrete foundations. As with many ASB locations, the problems go in waves.
What makes it an attractive spot for lurking is that it is quite well hidden, because of the dip, the bends in the lane and the overhanging trees. That’s why it’s been suggested that the trees could be cut back (not cut down completely) so the lane is more open. The trees lie between the wooden fences of the back gardens and the low stone wall. Can you clarify, do you think that the wall forms the boundary rather than the fence?
The Parish Councils have been consulted. I will pass your comments on to the officers involved.
I have now, after chasing, been told there will be consultation with people whose properties are next to the lane.
