Could you help two local women raise money for a charity that supports families affected by stillbirth and neonatal deaths?
Emma Steele and Helen Jackson from Coalpit Heath are cycling from Bristol to Edinburgh to raise funds for SANDS. They will be cycling the 420 miles from May 17 to May 19 – that’s 140 miles per day for 3 consecutive days!
Helen explains, ” Last year Emma’s old school friend, Zoe, was told her baby had died 3 days before her due date. At the time Emma was lost for words and felt compelled to do something – but what? As Zoe had moved to Edinburgh the bright idea of cycling from Bristol to Edinburgh was born.”
“The charity SANDS made this awful and traumatic experience a little more bearable. Producing a memories box, including hand and footprints and photographs etc, they also provided emotional support to the devastated pair. What better way to convey support than to raise these funds by enduring a journey with no outcome? The only winners will be the charity to support other families at this absolutely devastating period.”
What makes this even more impressive is that the pair are not, as they put it, “your super duper cyclists that have enjoyed it all our lives.” Emma only took up cycling just one year ago and Helen, 2 ½ years ago. They are currently training up to 5 days week for the ride.
Helen and Emma are desperate to reach their fundraising target of £10,000 for this amazing charity. You can find out more and sponsor them here. They are also looking for donations to cover the costs of the trip itself. Perhaps you run a local business who could sponsor the ride?
