There have been a number of theft from vehicle crimes in the Coalpit Heath and Tytherington areas recently. The police advise:

• Do not leave removable items like sat nav equipment in the vehicle.

• Ensure items that have value are not visible – even a jacket left in the vehicle could be an incentive to break in.

• Do not store items in the boot – remove them wherever possible.

• Have a routine to ensure you always lock and secure your vehicle – don’t make it easy for an opportunist.

• If you can park the vehicle in a securable location, a garage for example – do so.

• If you can’t park in a securable location look to park in a location that is lit and viewable from the home.

• In addition, using secure (theft resistant) number plates can make your plates less attractive to thieves.
