You may have heard that landline phone services are changing.
The old analogue phone network is being replaced with newer digital technology – a system called “Voice over Internet Protocol” (VoIP), also known as digital landline or “Digital Voice” in the case of BT. Although the new system will mainly work as it always has, there will be some differences, including the fact it won’t work in a power cut. You’ll need a mobile phone or battery backup unit for emergency calls when the power is out.
AgeUK have produced this helpful leaflet on the changes.
