A432 Badminton Road M4 overbridge closure

by Claire Young on 19 July, 2023

Last week National Highways closed the bridge over the M4 just before the Wick Wick roundabout on the A432 Badminton Road to motorised traffic.

  • They have done this for safety reasons.
  • Pedestrians and cyclists can still use the bridge.
  • They need to carry out further investigations to work out what needs to be done – this is likely to take until at least December 2023
  • One Network currently shows the A432 road closure until February 2024 – National Highways will update the expected end date once they know more about the problems with the bridge.
  • National Highways are responsible for the bridge over the M4, the investigations and length of work. They can be contacted on [email protected] or 0300 123 5000.
  • South Glos Council are monitoring the impact on the local road network, which is their responsibility. If you have concerns related to the bridge closure, please email [email protected]
  • You might also want to copy us on your emails as your ward councillors. We have been sharing your concerns with officers since this started. There have been particular worries about the impact on Coalsack Lane, Ruffet Road, Henfield Road and the Henfield Road/Westerleigh Road junction.

This is clearly going to have a huge impact for many months. Like residents, the council had very little warning this was happening and officers are reviewing all the planned work on the local network. Given the Church Road work had started it, that needed to be finished off and obviously if there are emergencies like water leaks or burst gas mains, that work will have to go ahead even if it impacts one of the main alternative routes.

You can find more information on the council website.
